I don’t want to go into the details. I just want to give you the summarized version. I don’t want to be the one telling the story, I can direct you to someone who can tell you the full story. Do these lines sound familiar? There are some people who are not patient to hear you out or anyone else for that matter. They always seem to be in a hurry or on the move. They always want the summary, preferring to refer you to another because they claim to be busy. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying they are not busy, they may be. But what many of these people lack is patience. The ability to be calm even when busy, that ability to listen and hear what another person may or may not be saying. It is a desirable trait! (You can see the video version of this here-https://youtu.be/eMRahWTkIs0)
Are you patience deficient? The better question is how do you know if you are? I think you can start by asking yourself if you more often than not behave like the people in the example above. If you do, then you need to work on being patient. Work on deliberately paying attention to the happenings and people around you. You need it to be able to work on your own project, tide over delayed or extended timelines. You just have to have this trait to be able to succeed in any area of human endeavour. Impatient people are more likely to throw in the towel during hard times. They hardly delay gratification; the concept of seeing and having it now is one of the hallmarks of these people. I ask again, are you impatient? If you have introspected and know you lack this attribute, then take a deliberate step to work on yourself.
You can start by practicing being intentional with your actions. You must know that this will take a conscious effort on your part. Start by deciding you will not gloss over any issue. So, for every matter that comes before you, no matter how you itch to get it over and done with, resist that urge and give attention to that matter. It will be very difficult at first. But I assure you, once you have disciplined yourself to do it many times, it will gradually seep into other parts of your life!
Today, take out your time to work on this. You will be glad you did.
Have a wonderful week!
